Men's Basketball Moves to 2-0

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team defeated St. Thomas University 82-68 Thursday night in The Den. The Wolfpack moved to 2-0 on the season and stayed undefeated at home.

Corey Gray paced the ‘Pack’s offense, scoring 18 points, with half of his points coming from the free-throw line. Robert Lovaglio continued his streak of double digit scoring, adding 17 points and 7 rebounds to his season totals. Finally, Chris Joseph recorded 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

“It was a game of two halves,” explained Loyola head coach Dr. Michael Giorlando. “The first half we played really well, and built a 26 point lead. We were flat in the second half and allowed them to get back in the game. We have to learn going forward to play a full 40 minutes and put teams away.”

Following a quick two point strike in the first 20 seconds of the game, the Wolfpack led the entire way. Loyola’s largest lead in the first half was 47-21.

The second half was a game of free throws. After the first five minutes of the second half, the ‘Pack reached the bonus. Loyola attempted 52 total free throws in the game, with 34 coming in the second half. The ‘Pack shot 70.6% from the line, and maintained a double digit lead in the second half to ice the game.

Senior Eugene Davis powered the Bobcats offense this evening. The 6-1 guard tallied 16 points and five rebounds. Jeffrey Remmington added 14 points of his own and dished out 5 assists. David Nesbitt and Everson Lacerda also recorded double digit scoring with 10 and 14 respectively.

Next, Loyola travels across town to, take on the Dillard Bleu Devils inside Dent Hall on November 14, at 7 p.m.
