NEW ORLEANS, La. – After a hard fought last minute 85-78 win over Carver Bible College, the Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team (1-0) is game tested and ready to clash with their NCAA Division-1 next-door neighbor.
This Sunday night, the Wolfpack will meet the Tulane Green Wave in the Battle of Freret Street. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Fogelman Arena.
“This game serves a lot of value. It is a great game for the community and this city,” explains head coach Dr. Michael Giorlando. “It also serves as great exposure for our university.”
The ‘Pack have the potential to claim their first win over Tulane in the Giorlando coaching era. A big win over the Green Wave would not only bring bragging rights to Loyola, but could also propel this team into a successful season in the SSAC.
Loyola is coming off a valiant victory over the Cougars, which saw Corey Gray and Robert Lovaglio score a combined 47 points.
Wolfpack nation that came out to The Den last night also witnessed Cameron Cates record a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Tulane returns five players from last year’s 13-17 squad, including pre-season first-team All-Conference USA selection Kendall Timmons.
The ‘Pack’s defensive efforts will undoubtedly be focused on Timmons, who led the team in scoring and rebounding last season with 17 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Sunday’s exhibition match is Tulane’s first contest of the season.
“The Tulane game gives our guys an opportunity to go up against one of the better teams in the area,” continues Giorlando. “It’s two great universities who have an opportunity to compete and provide a great atmosphere for our alumni and students.”
Wolfpack fans can also purchase tickets to attend the Loyola pep rally starting at 5 p.m. in the Danna Center.
