NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team returns to The DEN Saturday afternoon when it hosts cross-town rival Dillard University. Tipoff between the Wolfpack and the Bleu Devils is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST.
The ‘Pack takes to its home court after falling 72-74 to Southern University New Orleans on the road. With the loss, Loyola dropped to 4-2 on the season.
Dillard travels across town with a 0-7 record this season. The Bleu Devils are averaging only 53.6 points per game and shooting 36.2 percent from the field.
LU is led by sophomore Robert Lovaglio who leads the ‘Pack in scoring and rebounds. The Winter Park, Fla. native averages 21.3 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game. Lovaglio also ranks nationally in the NAIA in five categories: 21st in points per game (21.3), 23rd in total scoring (128), 24th in offensive rebounds per game (3.3), 33rd in total rebounds per game (8.2), and 45th in free throw percentage (0.821).
Loyola took the first contest between the two 65-39. The trio of Robert Lovaglio, Corey Gray, and Cameron Cates powered the Wolfpack attack with 14, 13, and 12 points respectively. Loyola’s defense disrupted Dillard the whole match, limiting the Bleu Devils to 32.5% shooting from the field, along with 25 total turnovers.
Dillard is led by Cameron Hill from Chicago, Ill. with 10.8 points per game. In the meeting earlier this season, Hill scored 11 points. Terry Church is second on the team in scoring with 10.3 points per game.
