NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team will officially kick off their regular season Thursday night, when they play host to Carver Bible College in The Den at 7 p.m.
The Wolfpack will undoubtedly apply the lessons learned after a tough 88-53 exhibition loss against NCAA D-1 opponent Southern Miss. Sophomore forward Robert Lovaglio and senior shooting guard Corey Gray look to once again lead the ‘Pack after both reached double digits in scoring.
The key for the ‘Pack’s success this week is to cut down on turnovers, giving up 16 at Southern Miss. They will also count on Corey Gray and company to improve upon their 1-13 shooting from behind the arc.
Now, under head coach Dr. Michael Giorlando, the Wolfpack are 6-1 in their season home openers, including a current four-year win streak.
Loyola will also seek to continue the home field advantage they created in The Den last season when they posted a 10-5 overall record, including a 5-1 home conference record.
The ‘Pack are currently 5-0 against Carver Bible College, with the series recently starting in the 2007 season. Loyola’s game plan has proven solid thus far, recording high margin victories such as 108-57 and 111-54. Furthermore, last season Loyola won 97-69 over their upcoming opponent.
