Mobile, Ala. - The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team fell 2-3 to Mobile, ending an eight match win streak to start the season.
Loyola (8-1, 0-1 SSAC) dropped the first two sets 20-25 and 14-25, prior to a two-set rally. The ‘Pack took the following two sets, rallying 31-29 and 25-18, before losing the final set 13-15.
Junior Sabrina Stansberry and sophomore Lauren Brand led the ‘Pack with 12 kills each, while freshman Eva Allen and senior Kailey Tuthill added another nine kills apiece to round out the attack leaders.
Defensively, sophomore Becca Burnnett had 26 digs, and senior Sam Worsham tallied 40 assists, including four service aces.
Mobile’s solid defense was led by Courtney Fenwick (27 digs) and Sara Van Wert (10 blocks). Kiara Gay recorded 16 kills and four service aces. Reagin Boggs helped their offense with 37 assists. The Rams improved to 10-3 and 1-0 in the SSAC.
The eight match win streak was the longest to start a season in Loyola’s history.
Loyola will continue with conference play with a pair of SSAC matches this weekend. The Pack, heads to Gainsvillle, Ga. on September 14th to face Brenau University at 7 p.m. The road swing ends on Saturday in Cleveland, Ga. with a tilt against Truett McConnell at 1 p.m.
