NEW ORLEANS, La. – The 21st ranked Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team (19-2) will travel right down the road to take on the University of New Orleans Lady Privateers (0-21) on Wednesday. The game will be played in Lakefront Arena with a tipoff set for 5 p.m. CT.
Wednesday’s game will be the fifth contest between the two teams with Loyola leading the series 3-2. The two teams last met this season in the first game of 2012, which resulted in a 82-54 decision in the ‘Pack’s favor.
The Wolfpack is in search of its 20th victory on the season. It could possibly be Kellie Kennedy’s third 20 win season in her four years at Loyola. The last time out, the Wolfpack faced conference-foe Spring Hill, defeating the Badgers 70-59 in Mobile. The ‘Pack forced 17 turnovers and held Spring Hill to a 30.6 (19-for-62) field goal percentage as well as a 16.7 (2-for-12) three-point shooting percentage. Senior Keiva Council led Loyola with 21 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and a steal. Junior Megen Berner led all Wolfpack players on the boards with 10 rebounds in addition to nine points and a block.
On the season, Council paces the ‘Pack offense with 22.5 points per game, which ranks 3rd in the NAIA. SSAC Player of the Week Jasmine Brewer averages a team-best 7.5 rebounds per outing.
UNO comes into the game having lost to Auburn Montgomery, 59-65. The Lady Privateers had three players with double digits points, led by junior Keri Thomas, who had 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Junior Mirjam Sipos leads the team on the year in points and rebounds, averaging 12.4 per game and 4.0 boards per game.
