NEW ORLEANS, La. – The 23rd ranked Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team (15-1, 7-1 SSAC) continues its tough conference road swing when it takes on No. 18 Belhaven (15-5, 8-1 SSAC) on Saturday, Jan. 21, in Heidelberg Gymnasium. The game will tip off at 2:00 p.m. CT in Jackson, Miss.
The Wolfpack and Lady Blazers will be meeting for the 24th time in the series where Loyola owns a 22-12 advantage. The Lady Blazers have won the last two games against Loyola with the ‘Pack’s last win coming on February 20, 2010, by a score of 64-51.
Loyola looks to continue upon its best start in school history after defeating Faulkner University Thursday, 90-84, in a thrilling overtime game. The ‘Pack had one of its best defensive outings on the season against the Lady Eagles, forcing 24 turnovers and producing 13 steals. Sophomore Amy Moody had a banner night scoring a career-high 33 points while adding five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Fellow sophomore Jasmine Brewer also had a great night putting down 22 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double on the season.
Belhaven is also coming off a conference victory over William Carey at home. Senior guard Kiara Johnson led the Lady Blazer offense in the win with 17 points. Joining Johnson in double-figures were senior Regena Jackson and junior Sarah Carr who added 15 and 13 points, respectively. For the season, Belhaven is led on offense by Jackson who averages 21.2 points per game, which is third best in the NAIA.
