NEW ORLEANS, La. – The 23rd ranked Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team (15-2, 7-2 SSAC) will host the William Carey Lady Crusaders (8-9, 5-5) on Thursday evening. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CT in The DEN.
Thursday’s game will be the 35th time the teams have faced each other in the series. The two teams split decisions last season with William Carey taking the win in Hattiesburg and Loyola responding with a victory in New Orleans.
Loyola is looking to rebound after falling to No. 18 Belhaven in its second Southern States Athletic Conference loss of the season. SSAC Player of the Week Jasmine Brewer led the team with 15 points and 14 rebounds for her fifth double-double for the year. Senior Keiva Council added a team-high 19 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. The 5-8 guard leads the team in scoring on the year, averaging 23.4 points per game while Brewer averages a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game.
The Lady Crusaders had a big win over AUM last time out, putting them at .500 in conference play. William Carey was led in scoring by junior Crystal Tucker, who scored 22 points. The Lady Crusaders came out with a well-rounded scoring offense, having nine players score in the game.
William Carey’s only player averaging double-figure points is Tucker who scores 10.4 points per game. She is followed by senior Megan Reynolds, who contributes 9.1 points per contest. Tucker also leads the team in rebounds with 7.9 boards per game.
