ROME, Ga. – The 23rd ranked Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team begins the SSAC Clash of 2012 presented by Fuddruckers and Floyd County on Thursday evening against the Emmanuel Lady Lions. Tipoff at The Forum in Rome, Georgia is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CST). An audio broadcast of the contest will be available on Loyola’s livestream channel at http://www.livestream.com/loyolawolfpack.
Loyola comes into the tournament as the Southern States Athletic Conference’s Western Division Runner-Up with a 23-4 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the league. The Wolfpack will face a familiar opponent in Emmanuel on Thursday. LU defeated the Lady Lions, 66-51, back on December 3. Emmanuel is the Eastern Division’s No. 3 seed.
Thursday’s game will be LU’s seventh against an Eastern Division opponent this season. The Wolfpack is 5-1 versus the SSAC East this year with wins over Southern Wesleyan, Truett-McConnell, Emmanuel, Brewton-Parker, and most recently the reigning SSAC Tournament Champion Southern Poly. Loyola comes into Thursday’s quarterfinal led by its stellar shooting. The Wolfpack converts 47.1 percent of attempts from the floor which is the best in the NAIA.
Senior Keiva Council leads the ‘Pack with 22.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. Sophomore Jasmine Brewer averages 16.4 points and 7.4 rebounds while fellow sophomore guard Amy Moody is averaging 12.1 points and 2.2 assists per game.
Emmanuel is coming off a four-game winning streak, most recently posting a 79-47 win over Southern Poly on Saturday. Emmanuel was led by senior point guard Aubany Thomas’s 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists while fellow senior Caneisha Bell added 11 points off of a 44.4 field goal percentage (4-of-9) to improve EC to 18-12 overall this season.
A win against Emmanuel will advance the Wolfpack to the tournament semifinals against the victor of the Lee vs. Southern Wesleyan/William Carey game.
