No. 23 Women's Basketball Wraps up Home Slate with Mobile on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The 23rd ranked Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team (22-4, 13-4) will play its final home game of the 2011-12 season on Saturday when it hosts the University of Mobile (7-20, 4-13 SSAC) in The DEN.

Prior to the game, Keiva Council and Amy Sprout will be honored for their contributions to the team as a part of the Senior Day festivities. Both Council and Sprout have been instrumental parts of the team since their freshman seasons.

Saturday’s game is the second meeting between Loyola and Mobile this season and 41st overall. Loyola won the previous game on February 2, and has taken 11 of the past 12 meetings.

Earlier this season, the Wolfpack came away with an 82-57 victory in Mobile. For the game, Loyola was 48.6 percent from the floor (34-of-70) with sophomore Jasmine Brewer leading the way with a season-high 26 points. Brewer shot 60.0 percent (9-for-15) from the floor and 100.0 percent from the free throw line (8-for-8). In addition, Loyola forced 25 Mobile turnovers which led to 31 Wolfpack points.

Loyola enters Saturday’s contest posting a 75-68 victory over the William Carey Lady Crusaders on Thursday. Brewer scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the ‘Pack against the Lady Crusaders. In addition to Brewer’s 20 points, Council scored 18 points and junior Megen Berner added 16 for Loyola. Berner also grabbed eight boards to go along with her career-high 16 points. Loyola shot 47.3 percent from the floor (26-of-55) from the floor.

Council continues to lead Loyola in scoring on the season with 22.7 points per game, which ranks second in the NAIA as well as second in the SSAC. She is followed by Brewer, who averages 16.5 points per contest. Brewer is also the ‘Pack’s leader in rebounds with 7.4 boards per game.

Mobile has dropped two of its last three games, most recently being edged by Faulkner, 91-59, in Mobile. Despite the loss, the Lady Rams shot 40.7 percent from the floor (24-of-59) and 36.4 percent (4-for-11) from behind the arch.Freshman Courtney Bayliss led Mobile in scoring and rebounding as she posted 16 points and six rebounds. Freshman Sharifa Chandler and senior Daphnee Frieson also contributed in double figures with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

Senior Alice Honnery leads the team on the season in scoring and rebounding contributing 15.2 points per game and 10.7 boards per contest. Honnery ranks first in the NAIA in blocks per game (4.0) and first in total blocks 107).
