JACKSON, Miss.- The Loyola University volleyball team went undefeated this weekend adding a pair of victories Saturday afternoon at the Millsaps Volleyball tournament. In the first match, the Wolfpack defeated Howard Payne 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-23) and Centenary 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-10).
“I’m happy with the performance this weekend,” said head coach Tommy Harold. “We reached our preseason goal of 20 wins. Now we are shifting our focus to closing out the conference and the tournament.”
In the ‘Pack’s match against Howard Payne, freshman O’Neal McMullan paced the Loyola offense tying her career-best 15 kills. Junior Kailey Tuthill added eight, and sophomore Sabrina Stansberry had seven. Senior captain Amanda Oldani topped all passers with an impressive 21 digs. Junior Samantha Worsham had 15 and freshman Becca Burnett 10.
In the afternoon match against Centenary, freshman Lauren Brand had a stellar offensive outing with 17 kills. Right behind Brand were McMullan and Stansberry who collected 13 kills and 12 kills, respectively. Oldani once again commanded the defensive end with 22 digs. Worsham added 14 digs and Burnett produced 12. Senior defensive specialist Kaki Johnson made her mark with three aces.
The ‘Pack hits the road next week when they take on conference rival University of Mobile at 7 p.m. CST in the H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium.
