Jackson, Miss. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball defeated Huntingdon College, 25-13, 25-23, 25-8, and the University of Texas at Tyler, 25-9, 25-15, and 25-21 on Friday night at the Millsaps College Tournament.
With the Pack victorious in their first match of the tournament, head coach Tommy Harold earned his 200th career win at Loyola University. Loyola improved to 20-7 on the year, and is currently 6-7 in conference play.
Against the Huntingdon Hawks (13-14), freshman outside hitter Eva Allen paced the attack with eight kills while sophomore Lauren Brand and freshman Katie Hamilton each had six. Senior setter Samantha Worsham aided the offense with 32 assists and sophomore libero Becca Burnett added three service aces. Defensively, Burnette recorded 15 digs and sophomore middle blocker Tiffany Walker tabbed three blocks.
In the second match against the Patriots (12-14), the Pack’s offense was led by junior middle blocker Sabrina Stansberry who recorded seven blocks. Worsham added four service aces and 29 assists. At the net, Stansberry tabbed seven blocks for Loyola’s defense while Burnette notched 27 digs.
Loyola will face LeTorneau University (6-24) at 10am on Saturday morning, and tournament host Millsaps College (22-5) slated for 4pm. The Pack will then return home to face conference opponent Belhaven University on Tuesday at 7pm for their final home match of the season.
