(New Orleans, La.) The Southern States Athletic Conference announced on Monday that Loyola University New Orleans sophomore Paul Freese was named Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 24.
Freese, a New Orleans native, earned the award after running two races at the LSU Relays this past weekend. Freese set the school record in the 5,000 meter race as he posted a time of 16:08.61. That mark topped the previous record of 16:11 which was set by Mike Gulotta in 2002.
Freese also participated in the 800 meters as he ran the race in 2:06.06 which was the fifth fastest time in school history for the distance.
Freese’s award comes on the heels of Sarah Tortorich and Claude Nelson both winning the Track Athlete of the Week Awards the previous week.
Freese and the rest of the Wolf Pack will return to action for the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational held in Clinton, Mississippi on April 5th at 1:00 p.m.
