NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities announced Robert Lovaglio, of the Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball squad, to the Jesuit Honor Roll for his performance during the week of February 6-12.
Lovaglio powered the squad to a 1-1 showing last week, falling to UNO 73-81, before winning an important conference game against Faulkner 86-76; thus, moving Loyola’s record to 15-9 overall, 7-7 in SSAC play.
The sophomore forward led the team with 18 points at UNO. He shot 7-10 from the field, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out one assist. Lovaglio followed that performance with a double-double against Faulkner, recording 17 points and 12 boards. The successful outing was his third double-double of the year.
The achievement is Lovaglio’s second Honor Roll distinction of the season, previously acknowledged for his offensive showing November 21-27, when he scored a season high 26 points against SUNO.
Robert is the team’s leading rebounder, averaging 7.56 a game. He is ranked fifth in the conference in rebounds per game and 44th in the NAIA. The Winter Park native also ranks 46th nationally in points per game with 16.39.
Lovaglio looks to guide the Wolfpack to victory this Thursday, when Loyola hosts division leader Belhaven inside The Den at 7:30 p.m. The conference showdown will be Loyola’s Annual Cancer Awareness Game benefiting the Play 4Kay Charity and the Coaches vs. Cancer Program.
The event was organized by the Athletics and Wellness Student Leadership Council that is comprised of student leaders from each athletic team and student employee staff.
