New Orleans, La. – Former Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball player Ryan Brock recently signed a contract to play professionally overseas in the Al Ahli Sports Club in the Qatar Basketball Federation for the nation of Qatar.
Qatar is a small peninsula located on the east coast of Saudi Arabia, and is surrounded by the Persian Gulf. Although the Qatari team is currently in sixth place with a 1-2 record, Brock has been playing outstanding basketball. In the league, Brock ranks third in points per game with a 22.5 average. He also ranks fourth in steals per game, averaging 2.5 grabs.
Brock competed for the Wolf Pack for three seasons, from 2008-11, where he not only left quite a mark on the men’s basketball program, but in the record books as well.
For the first time in Loyola history, Brock earned NAIA All-American honors in three consecutive years from 2009-11. Scoring 1,706 points in just three seasons, Brock climbed his way to the No. 2 spot in Loyola’s all-time career individual scoring records. He made 615 field goals, including three-pointers, and 446 free throws in 81 contests.
“We’re very excited for Ryan to have the opportunity to play at the next level,” said Athletic Director and Head Men’s Basketball Coach Dr. Michael Giorlando. “We was an outstanding player in our program, who excelled on the court and in the classroom. We look forward to great things from him in the future.”
