SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Loyola University New Orleans, continuing its tradition of excellence in the classroom as well as on the court, had two seniors named to the 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete List the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes recently announced.
Seniors Kaki Johnson and Ashley England earned a spot on the list. Student-athletes are nominated by their institution’s head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and must have achieved a junior academic status in order to qualify for the honor.
Johnson, a senior defensive specialist from Johns Island, S.C., is majoring in philosophy with a concentration of pre-law and Spanish. On the court, she finished the year with 83 digs. In Johnson’s two years, Loyola finished 48-25.
England, a senior middle blocker from Morgan Hill, Calif., is majoring in English and international studies. She finished the season with 87 kills and was second on the team with 40 blocks. She currently ranks fifth all-time at Loyola with 260 career blocks.
This marks the sixth straight season that the Loyola volleyball team has had at least one player make the scholar athlete list.
