MOBILE, Ala. - Spring Hill College went ahead early over the Loyola University Wolfpack and never surrendered the lead as the Badgers' baseball team won the first of the three-game series, 4-1.
Taylor Domengeaux went 3-for-5 in the effort. Ryan Scott went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Wolfpack (15-34, 5-11 SSAC). Kendell Carvin, Brad Holstein and Brooks Bobinger each had two hits and an RBI for the Badgers (16-34, 4-13 SSAC).
The Wolfpack threatened to get on the board first, loading the bases with no outs in the first. The Badgers, however, induced a strikeout, fly out and ground out to end the inning. In the bottom of the first, SHC scored a pair of runs. Holstein hit an RBI double with one out, and Fred Rossi drove in Holstein with a single. The Badgers added to the lead in the second when Bobinger hit an RBI single through the middle of the infield.
Each team threatened to score a number of times in the middle innings, but neither team crossed the plate again until Spring Hill added a run in the sixth to make the lead 4-0. Carvin hit a two-out single to drive a runner in from third.
Loyola scored its run in the top of the seventh when Domengeaux hit a single up the middle to load the bases with one out. Scott hit a sac fly to deep right-center, scoring Garrett Lacour from third. LU got runners on base in each of the last two innings, but could not cross home again.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, which will mark the final games of the season for both teams. Game one is set to begin at 1 p.m.
