HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Alexandra Lain broke her own school record set earlier in the season in the triple jump and Sarah Tortorich broke her 2010 school record in the 100 meters as the pair led a contingent of Wolfpack track and field athletes who had good showings at the 2011 Golden Eagle Classic.

Lain’s second place triple jump of 36’6.25” bested her previous school record by over a foot, as Lain’s previous mark of 35’1.75” set the LU record at the Louisiana Classics meet in March. Teammate Raven Lewis also competed in the event, coming in third with a personal record-setting mark of 36’.

Tortorich, who set the previous Loyola record in the 100 with a time of 12.99 seconds in 2010, ran a 12.53-second time at the Golden Eagle Classic, taking ninth place at the meet. Tortorich also placed ninth in the 200 in 25.98 seconds, behind teammate Lewis, who ran a personal best 25.82 seconds, good for seventh place.

Meanwhile, Lewis also finished third in the long jump; Vanessa Righeimer and Elizabeth Gienger finished third and fourth in the 1500; and Jena Knoblach, Righeimer and Gienger took home fourth, fifth and sixth in the 800 meters.

Lain’s performance in the triple jump and Lewis’s in the long jump put them just short of making nationals, coming within a foot of the required qualification distance.

On the men’s side, Kenny Tsao and Abraham Thacker led the way with second place finishes. Thacker ran a 18:01.97 5000 meters, and Tsao finished the 1500 in 4:33.22. Thacker also earned third in the 1500, finishing in 4:52.52.

Tsao and Neal Outland finished back-to-back in the 800, coming in fourth and fifth. Tucker Scott took home fifth in the 200 meters.

The final meet of the season will be the NAIA National Championships in Marion, Ind., where Thacker and Righeimer will compete in the men’s and women’s marathon events, respectively. That meet will be hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University on May 26.
