(Victoria, Texas) The Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s golf teams concluded tournament action at the 2014 Claud Jacobs Invitational hosted by the University of Houston-Victoria this afternoon.
“Many of the teams that competed in both the men’s and women’s tournament are in the top 10 in the country. One team has several national championship victories in their history book,” said head coach Lisa Tinkler. “I’m proud of the way both of my squads competed against such talented competition.”
Freshman Sarah-Anne Smurlick ended up tied for 13th after two days of competition at The Club at Colony Creek. She shot a 76 both days for a combined score of 152. Freshmen Megan Keck tied for 20th place individually, scoring a 158 overall. The Wolf Pack women finished sixth as a squad.
Freshman Keith Burkard led the men’s side for Loyola, shooting a 74 and a 76 in the first two rounds respectively on day one and finishing with a 78 on day two. Burkard’s 228 between the three rounds earned him a tie for 25th. The Wolf Pack men ended the competition with a total team score of 977, good for 14th place.
The Loyola golf teams will return to action on March 10-11 when they host the Loyola University New Orleans tournament at Oak Harbor Golf Club in Slidell.
