NEW ORLEANS, La. – In the touted matchup between Loyola coach Zubin Engineer and University of New Orleans assistant Nui Engineer – Zubin’s wife – the Privateers came out ahead, winning in women’s tennis, 6-1, and 7-0 on the men’s side.
For the men, Jordan Hunting had a very competitive match at #3 singles, falling to UNO’s Hossam Meligy, 6-3, 6-2. Brian Pena fell short against UNO hitter Benjamin Bouhana at #1 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Pena and partner Carson Wahl played a tight match at #1 doubles, falling, 8-4.
In women’s action, Claire Landry fell at #1 singles to Kozue Matsumoto, 6-2, 6-0. Landry and Frances Bonnin took a setback at #1 doubles, falling to Matsumoto and Amber Garza, 8-2. Loraine Torres earned a point for the Wolfpack as she took a default match from UNO.
Next weekend, the tennis teams will travel outside of New Orleans for the first time in over a month, as they will take on conference opponents Mobile and Spring Hill in Mobile, Ala. on April 9. The teams will take on Mobile starting at 11 a.m., and will battle Jesuit rival Spring Hill at 3 p.m.
