NEW ORLEANS, La. – Earlier this afternoon, Vanessa Righeimer competed at the 32nd Annual NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championship in Vancouver, Washington.
In her debut at Nationals, the sophomore ran a 20:41 in the women’s 5K race. She finished in 258th place out of 323.
Righeimer ends the season with four top-15 finishes. Her best finish occurred at the Loyola Wolfpack Invitational on September 10 when she came in 7th place. Righeimer recorded the eighth fastest 5K time in Loyola history at the Gulf Coast Stampede with 19:51, then followed that performance with the second fastest time at the SSAC Conference Championship with 19:37. Her eighth place finish at the Conference Championship meet not only earned Righeimer a bid to Nationals, but also the distinction of 2011 All-Conference Team.
“It was tough muddy course, and it was easy to loose your footing. She toughed it out and ran her hardest,” stated head cross country coach Andy Canegitta. “She has the talent and ability to improve on what she has done so far. I know she will keep this experience in the back of her mind, and it will push her to compete harder and return to Nationals next year.”
