NEW ORLEANS, La. – Co-captain Vanessa Righeimer will represent the Loyola Wolfpack Saturday morning, when she races in the 32nd Annual NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championship in Vancouver, Washington.
Righeimer will be competing in her first national championship after a very successful sophomore season. She has competed in all six meets this season, compiling four top-15 finishes. She recorded the second fastest 5K time in Loyola history at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship with a time of 19:37, which earned her the distinction of 2011 All-Conference Team.
“I ran a lot of tough hill workouts to prepare for Nationals because the course is going to be hilly and muddy,” explains Righeimer. “I’m nervous and excited at the same time. I have the opportunity to race against the best in the nation.”
Nationals take place at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. The women’s 5K race will begin approximately at 1:45 p.m. CST. The awards ceremony will be streamed-live starting at 4 p.m. CST at https://www.eventbuilder.com/encounter/event_desc.asp?p_event=q3f56v1o
“Vanessa can expect to compete against the best and go neck and neck with some All-Americans,” said head cross country coach Andy Canegitta. “Her game plan is to run amongst the top runners from conference and achieve a new personal best time.”
