JACKSON, Miss. – The Loyola University volleyball team (15-9, 8-4) finished the weekend with a road victory against Belhaven University (18-10, 5-7), in Rugg Arena on the Belhaven campus. The Wolfpack followed their 3-1 heartbreaking loss of Spring Hill with a, 30-32, 25-27, 25-22, 25-23, 16-14, victory over the Blazers.
“I am so proud of the way our team faced the adversity on the road,” said head coach Tommy Harold. “We mixed it up with a new lineup, which was exciting. Every conference match is a battle. I was thrilled to see the girls step up and play so well.”
All five sets remained extremely tight throughout the match. Despite playing strong, Loyola dropped the first two sets 30-32 and 25-27. The ‘Pack slowly but surely came together and fought hard to come from behind to win the next three sets 25-22, 25-23, and 16-14.
Junior setter Samantha Worsham had another impressive match as she posted a new season-high 59 assists as well as six aces. Worsham’s 59 assists puts her over 700 on the season. Worsham also added seven kills and 22 digs. This is her 14th double-double on the season.
Two Wolfpack players tallied double-digit kills in the match. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Brand posted a match high 25 kills while junior outside hitter Kailey Tuthill followed up with 20. Tuthill also added a new career-high 26 digs.
Belhaven had four players tally double-digit kills. Christina Atwood garnered 18, Taylor Williams produced 16, Natalie Davis had 14, and Samantha O’Malley added 13. Williams also had 17 digs Setter Erin Bradley dished out 55 assists and dug 16 attacks. Gabriella Zorzoli led all passers with 33 digs.
The ‘Pack’s next match is Tuesday, Oct. 25 when they host NCAA opponent West Florida. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in The DEN.
