New Orleans, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team received votes in the NAIA Volleyball Top 25 Coaches’ Poll for the second week in a row.
Loyola received three votes this week and were among the 15 teams to garner attention outside the Top 25. Last week, the Wolf Pack received 24 votes received which marked the first time since 2009 in which Loyola received votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’Poll.
With a record of 8-1, Loyola is off to their best season start since 2008 when the Pack turned in six consecutive victories. The team set a mark for the most victories to begin a season after sweeping four matches at each of the first two tournaments to start the 2012 campaign..
Loyola fell to the University of Mobile in yesterday’s contest, notching their first loss of the year in a tough 3-2 loss. Mobile took the first two games and Loyola rallied for the next two wins, but lost in the fifth set.
Freshman Eva Allen leads the Wolf Pack’s offense, having generated 67.5 points with 60 kills, and senior Sam Worsham leads the team with 21 service aces. Defensively, the Pack is led by junior Sabrina Stansberry and freshman Kaitlin Mohr with 20 blocks apiece, while sophomore Becca Burnett has tallied 135 digs in the back court.
The only other SSAC team mentioned in the Top 25 is conference-foe Lee University (7-2) who moved from No. 6 last week to No. 5 this week. Loyola will face Lee at The Den on October 5th at 7pm.
The Pack will head to Gainsville, Ga. on Sept. 14th to face Brenau University at 7pm, and will take on Truett McConnell at 1pm in Cleveland, Ga on Saturday, Sept. 16th.
