New Orleans, La. – Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team will host conference-foe Spring Hill College in their home opener at The Den on Tuesday at 7pm.
The Pack is currently 9-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play, falling to the University of Mobile and Brenau University last week, before picking up their first SSAC victory over Truett-McConnell College on Saturday. Loyola has received votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll over the past two consecutive weeks.
While Loyola ranks 12th in the NAIA in service aces per game (2.350), senior setter Samantha Worsham individually holds down the No. 16 spot in service aces per game (0.680) with 26 total. The team also ranks 18th in digs per game (17.950) and 19th in hitting percentage (0.261).
Freshman outside hitter Eva Allen leads the Pack with 73 kills, while Worsham also leads in assists (328). Defensively Loyola is led by sophomore libero Becca Burnnett who has recorded 163 digs, and junior middle blocker Sabrina Stansberry has notched 22 blocks.
Spring Hill is 2-0 in conference play and 11-3 overall. Last week the Badgers defeated Faulkner University in three games, as well as No. 5 ranked Lee University in five sets to start off undefeated in the SSAC. Spring Hill ranks 16th among all NAIA teams in kills per game (13.320) and 19th in digs (17.910).
Loyola will then travel to Jackson, Miss. on Sept. 25th to play (2-0) Belhaven University at 7pm. The Pack will then return to The Den for a five-match home stand from Sept. 28th through October 6th, facing conference opponents Coastal Georgia, Brewton Parker, Lee University, and Faulkner University. They will then take on Tougaloo College on October 9th to finish out the home stand.
