GAINSVILLE, Ga. -The Loyola volleyball team downed Emmanuel 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-18) Friday afternoon at the Brenau Gymnasium in the second SSAC Cross-Over of the season. The Wolfpack finished with 41 kills and hit .275 for the match. With the win, Loyola improves to 6-5 on the season and 4-3 in the SSAC. The Lions drop to 13-7 overall and 0-6 in the SSAC.
“I was pleased with the effort and the focus today,” said head coach Tommy Harold. “We have been shifting our focus off of the outcome and putting a larger emphasis on the process of doing things the right way. We were able to come out early, make a few adjustments, finish the match in three sets and with two more matches tomorrow it was important to finish as quickly as possible.”
Junior Kailey Tuthill led all players on offense with 13 kills, passing 100 kills on the season. Tuthill also hit .355 percent for the match. Sophomore Sabrina Stansberry contributed on the front line with seven kills and three blocks. Freshman O’Neal McMullan also added eight kills, and junior Samantha Worsham led the setters with 32 assists. Leading the defensive front was senior Amanda Oldani with 15 digs while also tallying 4 aces.
Freshman outside hitter Robin Janney led Emmanuel’s offense with eight kills. Following closely behind Janney was sophomore Riley Forester with seven kills. Defensively, junior Charmaine Kehoe led the way with 12 digs.
The ‘Pack continue their run in the SSAC Cross-Over this weekend when they take on Southern Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. (CTS) and Brenau University at 4 p.m. (CTS).
