(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team will host their second consecutive local opponent when Southern University New Orleans visits The Den on Friday, Dec. 6 for a 7 p.m. tipoff. One lucky fan will win tickets to the Saints vs. Panthers game on Sunday night in the Superdome.
The Wolf Pack (6-4) looks to recover from a tough loss to No. 15 Xavier University at home Tuesday evening. Despite recording better percentages from the field, the free throw line and three-point range, Loyola was outhustled on the offensive glass and committed 25 turnovers compared to Xavier’s 18. Junior Janeicia Neely posted a team-high 22 points versus the Gold Nuggets, going four for six from behind the arch. Senior Jasmine Brewer recorded 11 points and tied freshman Meghan Temple for the top rebounding effort with seven boards. Freshman Kylah Jones added 10 points, sinking four out of six from the field and two of three at the line. Jones paced the Pack with four assists.
Neely leads Loyola in points per game (16.20), average assists (4.20) and average steals (1.90). Brewer holds the team best rebounding average, tallying 7.50 a night.
The Knights (2-2) defeated Paul Quinn College Wednesday night. Sophomore Victoria Davis is averaging a team leading 23 points and 2.33 steals per game. Senior Sharilyn Reed commands the squad in rebounds, collecting 5.33 per contest, and steadies the SUNO defense with four blocks on the year.
Friday evening’s contest will feature two special promotions as part of Women’s Basketball Weekend. In addition to Wolf Pack fans in attendance having the chance to win two tickets to this Sunday night’s Saints vs. Panthers game, tickets for Sunday afternoon’s Loyola women’s basketball vs. Tulane game will be available for purchase at Friday’s contest. For $5, fans can buy a ticket to watch the Wolf Pack take on the Green Wave Sunday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. at the Devlin Fieldhouse.
