(Alexandria, La.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball team split a doubleheader with Louisiana State University at Alexandria on Saturday at the Generals Softball/Baseball Complex. Loyola fell in the first game 6-2 before winning an extra inning thriller 4-3 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Loyola 2 LSUA 6
Loyola took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Allen Newman and Nevin Brown earned bases loaded walks to drive in runs.
Kevin Lindsey (3-3) pitched a six inning complete game but took the loss as the Generals scored six unearned runs. They scored three in the bottom of the fourth and three in the bottom of the sixth.
Kirk Savory (6-0) allowed two runs and earned his sixth consecutive victory for the Generals. LSUA (17-6) received votes in the most recent NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Poll.
Game 2: Loyola 4 LSUA 3
The Wolf Pack took a 3-0 lead but saw LSUA fight back and send the game into extra innings. Loyola’s Brandon Snow led off the 10th with a single, and was sacrificed to second by Chris Bell. Karson Cullins provided the go ahead RBI on a two out single.
Loyola (11-11) took the lead in the sixth thanks to a two out rally that produced three runs in the sixth inning. Harold Toscano singled to score Jack Nicholson and Lance Licciardi followed with a triple that knocked in Cullins and Toscano.
Joel Buhler threw six shutout innings, before running into trouble in the seventh. Nick Moore recorded one out on a sacrifice bunt before Connor Thurman came into replace him. Thurman (2-0) threw 3 2/3 innings and picked up the win.
The Wolf Pack will return to action on Tuesday, March 11th. Loyola will take on Eureka College at 2 p.m. and follow that with a 6 p.m. contest against Blackburn College. The teams will then follow the same schedule on Wednesday, March 12th.
