KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Loyola University women’s basketball team received 88 votes in this week’s NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Top 25 Poll, ranking the Wolfpack 23rd nationally for the second consecutive week. The ‘Pack received 11 less votes than last week’s poll yet still ranks 23rd.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The final regular season Top 25 Poll will be announced on Mar.7.
Loyola has now won eight of its last 10 games, most recently defeating William Carey on the road and Mobile at home to finish the regular-season on a two-game winning streak. Senior Keiva Council and sophomore Jasmine Brewer led the Wolfpack yet again scoring a combined 83 points on the week. The dynamic duo also added 28 rebounds.
Council continues to lead the ‘Pack on the season averaging 22.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. Her 22.9 points per game ranks second in the NAIA and her 618 total points ranks third. The Houston, Texas native also ranks third in career scoring at Loyola with 1,793 points in her four years at LU.
The Wolfpack is currently 23-4 overall and 14-4 in conference play which marks the best winning percentage in the program’s history (85.2 percent). Loyola ranks nationally in the NAIA in a remarkable 15 categories, including no. 1 in field goal percentage (47.1 percent) for over a consecutive three months. The ‘Pack also ranks in the top 15 in three more categories: 8th in scoring offense per game (77.7), 11th in scoring margin (15.6), and 13th in three-point field goal percentage (33.4 percent).
