NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University men’s and women’s tennis teams both fell to conference rival Shorter University on Sunday afternoon from the University of New Orleans Tennis Center. The 15th ranked Lady Eagles defeated the Wolfpack women 9-0, while the 10th ranked Shorter men won 9-0.
“We competed very hard against these two ranked teams,” said head coach Zubin Engineer.
On the women’s side, no. 1 seed Meghan deBaroncelli fought hard but eventually fell 1-6 and 1-6. No. 2 seed Katie Beargie also played solid but could not hold out against her competitor and dropped a 0-6 and 0-6 set.
For the men, Brian Peña competed very well as the no. 2 seed for the Wolfpack, but dropped his set in a close score of 2-6 and 4-6.
The teams return to action on Friday, March 9 against Louisiana College at 3 p.m. from the University of New Orleans Tennis Center.
