NEW ORLEANS, La. – Loyola University New Orleans (9-5) volleyball returns home Tuesday for a match against cross-town rival Dillard University (5-7) at 7 p.m. CST.
Loyola is coming off an undefeated weekend at the SSAC Cross-Over in Gainsville, Ga. defeating Emmanuel (Ga.) 3-0, Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) 3-1, and Brenau (Ga.) 3-0. The wins put Loyola on a five-match winning streak. Junior outside hitter Kailey Tuthil paced the ‘Pack and continues to put up good offensive numbers. She led Loyola with 30 kills for the weekend, while freshman O’Neal McMullan continues to step up adding 29 kills including a career-best 15 against Southern Wesleyan. Junior Samantha Worsham dished out 93 assists in all three matches. Senior Amanda Oldani scooped up a team-best 48 digs.
Dillard comes into Tuesday’s match with a 3-1 loss to Xavier. The 5-7 Bleu Devils got off to a rocky 0-2 start before defeating Judson College at home on Sept. 10. Dillard is ranked 16th in the NAIA in blocks per game with 2.450. Individually, junior Jessica Goods-Morris ranks 5th in the NAIA in blocks per game with 1.560. Sophomore outside hitter Paula Ogbevoen leads the team with 90 kills. She recently passed her career-best 15 kills with an outstanding 21 kills against Pensacola Christian. Sophomore Courtney Devold leads the team with 240 assists including a career-high 48 also against Pensacola Christian. Defensively, Samantha Salao leads the Devils with 94 digs.
In the overall series, Loyola leads Dillard 29-6. The Wolfpack have won the last 16 meetings, with the Devils’ last victory coming on Oct. 5, 2004.
