(Montgomery, AL) Loyola University New Orleans dropped a 62-50 decision in women’s basketball to #22 ranked Faulkner University on Thursday night at Tine Davis Gymnasium.

Loyola jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first 2:39 of game action.  Shayne Charles scored five quick points to help the Wolf Pack surprise the Lady Eagles early.  However, Faulkner’s Head Coach Reed Sutton substituted all five of his starters, which started Faulkner’s climb back towards the lead.

The Lady Eagles took the lead for the first time when Brittney Carter made a jumper with 6:11 remaining in the first half.  Shannon Evans made a three pointer a minute later and Loyola never regained the lead.  Faulkner extended the margin in the first half, leading 36-25 at the break.

Loyola (8-10, 5-5) was led by Janeicia Neely who scored 18 points while also adding four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Leading scorer, Jasmine Brewer scored six points which was good enough to move her past Dani Holland and into 6th place on Loyola’s all time scoring list.  She also pulled down a game high 12 rebounds.  Charles scored 11 in the losing effort for the Wolf Pack.

Carter topped all Faulkner (18-4, 8-2) scorers by putting up 18 points and pulling down a team high 10 rebounds.  Evans hit three threes as part of her 13 points.  M.C. Bell scored 10 points off the bench, including six just after Faulkner took their first lead to help break open the game and eventually propel the Lady Eagles to victory.

With the victory, Faulkner sits tied atop the standings in the Western Division of the SSAC, along with Auburn-Montgomery.  Loyola drops into a tie with Spring Hill for fourth place, just a half game behind third place Mobile.

The Wolf Pack will be back in action on Saturday, January 26th as they take on Belhaven at 2 p.m. in The Den.
