KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team received 99 votes in this week’s NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Top 25 Poll, ranking the Wolfpack 23rd nationally. After dropping key conference matchups to no. 18 Belhaven and Auburn Montgomery last, the ‘Pack received 31 less votes than the previous poll and moved down four spots.
The Poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The next regular season Top 25 Poll will be announced on Feb. 27.
LU is coming off a two-game losing streak for only the first time this season. Last Thursday, the ‘Pack dropped a heartbreaker to no. 18 Belhaven and followed it up with another tough loss at Auburn Montgomery. Senior Keiva Council led Loyola in scoring with 35 points against the Lady Blazers and a game-high 23 points versus the Warhawks.
The Wolfpack is currently 21-4 and 12-4 in conference play, which still marks the best record in the program’s history to this point. Loyola ranks nationally in the NAIA in an outstanding 14 categories including no. 1 in field goal percentage (47.4%) for a consecutive three months. The ‘Pack also ranks in the top 20 in four more categories: 8th in scoring offense per game (78.0), 11th in scoring margin (16.2), 17th in three-point field goal percentage (33.2%), and 19th in total rebound defense (35.4).
Loyola looks to rebound after the two-game losing streak as it heads to William Carey for the final road game of the regular season. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Clinton Gymnasium.
