KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team received 130 votes in this week’s NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Top 25 Poll, ranking the Wolfpack 19th nationally. The ‘Pack received seven more votes than last week’s poll and moved up one spot in the rankings.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The next regular season Top 25 Poll will be announced on Feb. 20.
Loyola is now on a six game winning streak after defeating the University of New Orleans on the road and conference rival Faulkner. Senior Keiva and sophomore Jasmine Brewer led the ‘Pack yet again scoring a combined 79 points on the week. The dynamic duo also added 28 boards.
The Wolfpack is currently 21-2 and 12-2 in conference play, still marking the best start in the program’s history. LU ranks nationally in the NAIA in an incredible 16 including 16 categories, including no. 1 in field goal percentage (48.4) for almost three months straight. Loyola also ranks in the top 10 in two more categories: 5th in scoring offense per game (79.4) and 7th in scoring margin (18.0).
Loyola gears up for round two when they host no. 16 Belhaven (20-6, 13-2 SSAC) in a pivotal SSAC Western Division matchup. Belhaven currently holds a half game lead in the standings over LU for first place in the division. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT in The DEN. The game will the Loyola University New Orleans Department of Athletic and Wellness’s Annual Cancer Awareness Game benefiting the Play 4Kay Charity and the Coaches vs. Cancer Program.
