CENTRAL, S.C.- The Loyola University women’s basketball team garners its first Southern States Athletic Conference victory of the season with a dominate 106-55 win over the Southern Wesleyan Warriors Friday evening. Senior guard Keiva Council and sophomore forward Jasmine Brewer scored a game-high 23 points each. Council also added nine rebounds, four assists and three steals while Brewer added seven rebounds as well as a steal.
The victory ties a Loyola record for best starts to a season. Last season the ‘Pack won the first four games before falling to Brenau on the road.
“Our team came out focused tonight,” said head coach Kellie Kennedy. “We shot the ball extremely well and got everyone involved in the offense. We executed the game plan on both ends of the floor.”
Sophomore shooting guard Amy Moody added 15 points 5-of-9 from the floor as well as 2-of-4 from behind the arch. Junior forward Megen Berner added 11 points while going 5-for-7 from the floor.
For the game Southern Wesleyan connected on just 21-of-63 shots (33.3 percent), while the ‘Pack was true on 40-of-71 (56.3 percent). The Warriors turned the ball over 24 times, with only eight assists.
The final margin equaled LU’s biggest lead of the season and also marked the first time the ‘Pack has reached triple digits this season.
The ‘Pack looks for back-to-back SSAC wins this season when they head to Truett-McConnell Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CST).
