NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola women’s basketball team received seven votes in the NAIA’s preseason poll. The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The first regular-season Top 25 poll will be announced on Dec. 5.
Loyola is coming off a 20-12 season from a year ago while ranking in the top 50 in the NAIA in an impressive 12 categories. The Wolfpack ranked 27th in free throw percentage (0.714), 29th in 3-pt FG percentage defense (0.297), 31st in defensive rebounds per game26.344), 37th in total assists (439), 40th in total rebound margin (2.625), 41st in scoring defense per game (63.156), 41st in total rebound defense (36.375), 41st in total rebound offense (1,248), 43rd in assists per game (13.719), 46th in total scoring offense (2,139), and 49th in scoring margin (3.688).
For the upcoming season, the Wolfpack welcome back senior NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, WBCA All-American, and All-Conference member Keiva Council. Council ranked in the top 35 in the NAIA in five categories last season: 21st in total assists (140), 22nd in assists per game (4.375), 23rd in points per game (16.906), 23rd in total scoring (541), and 31st in free throw percentage (0.791). Joining Council will be SSAC Freshman of the Year Jasmine Brewer. Brewer also garnered the SSAC 6th Man Award and was a member of the SSAC All-Conference Team and All-Freshman Team. She lead the ‘Pack in rebounds with 208 and was second on the team in scoring with 441 points, averaging 13.78 a game.
Loyola will face off with three preseason top 25 teams including number 16 ranked Xavier (La.) on Dec. 17 at 2 p.m., number 21 ranked Shorter (Ga.) on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m., and number 25 ranked Belhaven on Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. and on Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
