NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball (7-0, 2-0) team returns home to take on the No. 21 ranked undefeated Lady Hawks of Shorter University (7-0, 2-0) on Friday, December 2 at 5:30 p.m. CT in The DEN. The following day, December 3, the Wolfpack will take on the Lions of Emmanuel College (4-5, 0-2). Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. CT.

Friday’s contest marks the third encounter between Loyola and Shorter, with the Wolfpack leading the series 2-0. The last meeting came at the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament in which the ‘Pack defeated the Lady Hawks 74-64 ending their season.

Both Loyola and Shorter are 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the SSAC in their respective seasons. Loyola defeated NCAA Division I opponent Northwestern State on the road last Friday 84-80. This was the Wolfpack’s first victory against a NCAA DI competitor since November of 2004. The Lady Hawks are coming off an 81-61 win against Reinhardt University.

Senior Keiva Council finished as Loyola’s leading scorer with a record breaking performance. Council’s impressive 48 points is now the Loyola’s single-game scoring leader. Sophomore Jasmine Brewer also made her presence known with her second double-double on the year scoring 18 points and grabbing a team-best 11 boards with an addition to five steals. Loyola shot 49.1 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from behind the arch.

Senior Robin Foster led Shorter to a staggering victory over Reinhardt with 17 points. Sophomore Lindsay Crawford was second in scoring with 12 points, paired with nine rebounds. The Lady Hawks had a well balanced offensive attack with two other players in double-digits. Senior Brittney Smith posted 11 points while Allison Danner, another senior, added 10.

Saturday’s matchup between Emmanuel and Loyola will be the second meeting between the two schools. The only other time the Wolfpack faced the Lions was back in October of 2004 where Loyola posted a 67-60 victory.

Emmanuel is 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference so far this season. The Lions are coming off a heartbreaking 50-52 loss to NCAA participant Erskin College (S.C.). This was Emmanuel’s fourth loss in a row. Their last win came against Morris (S.C.) back on Nov. 14.

Junior Kaylyn Young leads Emmanuel in scoring and assists averaging of 15.2 points per game and 3.9 assists per game. She was the only player in double-digit points in the Lions’ loss to the Flying Fleet.
