NEW ORLEANS, La. – An impressive three Loyola volleyball players hit 1.000 as the Wolfpack defeated cross-town foe Dillard University 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-15) Tuesday evening in The DEN. The win puts Loyola 10-5 on the season and on a six-match winning streak as they prepare for the Hampton Inn Wolfpack Invitational this weekend. Dillard drops to 5-8.
“It was a nice match tonight,” said head coach Tommy Harold. “We had opportunities to get everybody out there and still take care of business. It is always good to get a win at home. We had great performances from everybody. Everybody made a difference and did their job.”
Senior Ashley England was one of the three LU players to hit 1.000 as she racked up six kills. Joining kill with a perfect hitting match was sophomore Sabrina Stansberry with five kills and junior Libby Collyer with three kills. Collyer posted her first kills of her volleyball career. Also leading the ‘Pack was freshman standout Lauren Brand adding nine kills to the bunch while hitting .500. Junior Samantha Worsham had an outstanding match dishing out 21 assists along with a new career-high seven aces. Defensively, senior Amanda Oldani tallied nine digs and freshman Becca Burnett gathered seven digs.
Junior outside hitter Megan Laday led the Bleu Devils with eight kills. Senior Monica Barros De Alcantara and sophomore Paula Ogbevoen followed closely behind with five kills each. Barros De Alcantara also garnered a match—high 10 digs.
Next up for the Wolfpack will be the annual Hampton Inn Wolfpack Invitational beginning this Friday Oct. 7. The ‘Pack will take on University of St. Thomas, Belhaven College, Huston Tilloston University, Missouri Baptist University, and Texas A&M Kingsville.
