Four Loyola baseball players named to Scholar-Athlete list

New Orleans, La. – Four members of the Loyola baseball team; seniors Chucky Benach, Miles Colley, Kevin Fontenot, and Bryan Lavoie, were recently named to the 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Baseball Scholar Athlete list.

Benach, a right-handed pitcher from Miami, made his second straight appearance on the list. Benach, who graduated with an English degree this spring, finished his career at Loyola ranked third on the all-time strikeout list with 175.

Colley, a left-handed pitcher out of Houston, made his second straight appearance as well and will graduate this fall with a degree in finance and accounting. Colley had a career record of 6-7 with 71 strikeouts.

Kevin Fontenot, a physics major, also made the list for the second year in a row. Fontenot, who set two Wolfpack records as a junior, was a medical redshirt this past season.

Lavoie, who graduated this spring with a biology pre-med degree, made his first appearance on the list. Lavoie, an outfielder from South Portland, Maine, started 38 games this season for the Wolfpack and had two home runs with 18 RBI.

All players on the list must have at least 3.5 grade point average and be a junior in academic standing.
