New Orleans, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team recently earned recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association for their academic excellence for the 2008-09 season.
The Wolfpack were one of 409 teams that earned the AVCA Team Academic Award. The NAIA was represented with 35 teams receiving the honor.
Loyola, who had three players named to the NAIA Scholar Athlete list, has now garnered the award in two of the past three seasons. In order to be recognized, the team must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
The volleyball team finished last season with a 17-9 record, including a share of the GCAC regular season title. The Wolfpack start their 2009 campaign on September 4 against Union University in the Millsaps Tournament.
