Loyola volleyball defeats Piedmont; falls to Millsaps

Jackson, Miss. - The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team finished their weekend at the Millsaps Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Piedmont College, but were outlasted by host Millsaps, 3-2.

In the first match, Piedmont won the opening game 25-21, but the Wolfpack took control of the rest of the contest, winning 25-17, 26-24, and 25-19.

Gina Gill led the Wolfpack with 19 kills in the win. Samantha Worsham assisted on 36 points, and Amanda Oldani had a team high 15 digs.

Against Millsaps, the Lady Majors won the first game 25-15. The Wolfpack were victorious in the next two, 25-23 and 25-19, but Millsaps evened the match with a 25-19 win. After several lead changes in the decisive game five, Millsaps held on to win 19-17.

Gill once again led the attack with 24 kills, and Ashley Abendschein added 13. Worsham tallied 49 assists, while Oldani led the defense with 22 digs.

Loyola (2-2) opens up GCAC play on Tuesday, September 8, when they head cross town to face the SUNO Lady Knights. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
