Loyola announces men’s 2009-2010 basketball schedule

Posted: October 1, 2009 for Men's Basketball

New Orleans, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans athletic department announced the 2009-10 men’s basketball schedule on Thursday. Along with the highly competitive GCAC games, the Wolfpack will face a slate that consists of three NCAA Division-I opponents. Other highlights of the non-conference schedule includes a Thanksgiving trip to Chicago to face St. Xavier University and East-West University, and a home match up with Lambuth University on Nov. 22.

In the first match-up with the NCAA teams, Loyola heads across the street to Fogelman Arena on Nov. 9 to face Tulane. Last year’s contest was a battle, but Loyola could not hang on to their halftime lead, as the Green Wave went on to win the game.

Loyola travels to Hattiesburg on Nov. 17 to face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles for the third straight year. The Wolfpack’s last game against the NCAA’s is on Dec. 3 at Nicholls State. The Colonels finished last year with a 20-11 record.

For the second straight year, Loyola will open its season with a home game against Carver Bible College on Oct. 30.

On November 6, Loyola will aim to avenge last year’s loss to Wesley College, who knocked off the Wolfpack on their home floor.

November’s home schedule concludes with three games; Brewton-Parker on the 14th, Delta State on the 19th, and Lambuth on the 22nd. Loyola traveled to Lambuth last year and picked up a huge road victory, 78-76.

After the Thanksgiving trip to the Windy City, Loyola heads to Houston on Dec. 12 to play St. Thomas, before finishing their non-conference road slate at Delta State on Dec. 19.

Talladega College comes to The Den on Dec. 30, and Loyola wraps up their home-and-home season series with St. Thomas on Jan. 3.

Loyola, who returns all five starters, begins their GCAC schedule with two road games, first at Mobile on Jan. 7, followed by a Jan. 9 match up with LSU-Shreveport. Mobile, along with Tougaloo, represented the GCAC in the NAIA National Tournament last season.

The Wolfpack returns home for seven of their next ten games, with the GCAC home opener against SUNO on Jan. 14. Reigning conference champ Tougaloo comes to The Den on Jan. 16. Loyola and Tougaloo split the series last year, with both teams winning on the road.

The rest of January includes games at Belhaven on the 21st, home against Dillard on the 23rd, and at Xavier on the 25th. Loyola hosts Spring Hill on the 28th, and William Carey on the 30th.

The second half of the conference schedule kicks off with a game at The Castle against SUNO on Feb. 4. Mobile makes the return trip to The Den on Feb. 6, as well as LSU-S does on Feb. 8.

The Wolfpack finishes the year with four of six games on the road. On Feb. 11, they go to Dillard, followed by a trip to Tougaloo on Feb. 13. After a Feb. 18 home game with Xavier, Loyola hosts the Hall of Fame Game on Feb. 20 against Belhaven.

Loyola opens up the final week of the season back on the road against Spring Hill on Feb. 25 and at William Carey on Feb. 27. Last season, Loyola won a 106-102 four overtime thriller at Carey.

The GCAC Conference Tournament starts on March 2, with the sites to be determined.

All of Loyola’s home basketball games can be seen live on ATWSportscast.
