Posted: October 27, 2009 for Men's Basketball

NEW ORLEANS – The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) announced today that Loyola men’s basketball players Sean Bennett and Ryan Brock were named to the Pre-Season All Conference team.

It is the second preseason accolade for Brock, who was tapped by the Sporting News as Preseason All-American Honorable Mention. Last season, the 6-3 junior forward from Brother Martin in New Orleans was named All-GCAC as well as the conference’s Newcomer of the Year. He led the conference in scoring with 19.9 points per game with 518 points for the season-fifth on the Loyola single season list.

The NAIA also named Brock All-American Honorable Mention for his 2008-09 campaign. Brock was also honored as Louisiana Small College Player of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches and second team All-Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Bennett, a 5-10 senior guard from Mandeville, was an All-GCAC selection last season. The St. Paul’s grad led the conference in free throw percentage at a 86.0% clip, which was fourth in the NAIA. Bennett also shot 41.4% from behind the three point arc- second in the GCAC.

Loyola opens the season on Friday, October 30 against Carver Bible. Tip off in The Den is slated for 7 p.m. On Monday, November 9, the Wolfpack will travel across the street in the Annual Battle of Freret Street game against Tulane. The entire University community is invited to attend a pregame Pep Rally located in the Residential Quad starting at 5 p.m. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m. More information can be found at http://alumni.loyno.edu/lutu09.
