Loyola men’s hoops runs past Carver Bible, 111-54

NEW ORLEANS – Sean Bennett had 21 first half points with seven field goals from behind the arc as Loyola University New Orleans defeated Carver Bible 111-54 in the season opener for both teams Friday night in The Den.

Four minutes into the game, Loyola took command with a 29-10 run. Bennett started the streak with three consecutive three pointers on Loyola possessions. He added two more during the run and Corey Gray capped the scoring spree with a long ball of his own to give the Wolfpack a 36-16 lead with 8:06 in the half.

Ryan Brock extended the Loyola advantage to 60-24 with six straight points capped with a steal and bucket in the waning moments of the half.

In the second period, Loyola led by as many as 59 points with 4:51 to play on a Chris Joseph three pointer to make the score 104-45.

Loyola had four players in double figures with Brock’s game high 24 points leading the charge. Bennett finished with 21 points on 7 of 12 from the field. Gray and Joseph each had 13 points off the bench for the Wolfpack.

For Carver Bible (0-1), Marcus Fulks led with 18 points on 8 of 9 shooting from the field. Joshua Caston added 13.

Loyola shot 51.9% from the field, while holding the Cougars to a 34.8% clip.

Loyola returns to action on Friday, November 6 against Wesley College with top off in The Den slated for 7 p.m. Prior to the game against Wesley, Loyola’s junior varsity will play Baton Rouge Community College at 5 p.m.
