Loyola volleyball’s rally falls short at Mobile

Mobile, Ala. - The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team fell to the Mobile Lady Rams 3-1 (25-22, 11-25, 15-25, 28-30) in GCAC action on Tuesday night at Pharr Gymnasium.
In the first set with the scored even at 11, Loyola (16-14, 6-3 GCAC) went on a 5-0 run, capped off by a kill by Ashley Abendschein. Mobile came within two at 22-20, but Abendschein scored the final two Wolfpack points for the 25-22 win.
Mobile (19-11, 9-0 GCAC) responded in a big way, winning the second game 25-11. The Lady Rams broke a 2-2 tie by scoring 10 of the next 12 points before ending the game on a kill. The third set was much of the same, with Mobile ending the game by outscoring the Wolfpack 13-5 down the stretch.
In the fourth set, Loyola jumped out to an 8-4 lead after an ace by Lindsey Mullinix. After a timeout, Mobile answered with a 10-3 run. The Lady Rams looked ready to close out the match after two straight kills to make the score 23-20, but Loyola’s Samantha Worsham scored an ace and a kill to tie it at 23 all. After the score was knotted at 25-25, Loyola grabbed the lead three times before a Mobile kill ended the match at 30-28.
Loyola was led by Abendschein with 11 kills, and Taylor Jones added six. Worsham finished with 23 assists and three aces, while Gina Gill led with 14 digs.
Loyola wraps up the regular season on Friday when they head across town to face the Dillard Lady Bleu Devils. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
