Loyola volleyball downs Dillard 3-1

New Orleans, La. - The Loyola Univerisity New Orleans volleyball team traveled across town to Dent Hall on Friday night, and came away with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-11, 30-32, 25-20) victory over the Dillard Lady Bleu Devils.

In the first game, Loyola (17-14, 7-3 GCAC) broke a 7-7 tie with five straight points. An ace by Ashley Abendschein put the ‘Pack up 17-10, and they would take the set 25-20 on a kill by Rachael Roth.

In the second set, Loyola made easy work of Dillard, using a 16-4 run en route to a 25-11 victory. Roth and Abendschein had four kills each in the game.

Dillard (9-11, 5-5 GCAC) was able to take the third game, winning in extra points 32-30. The set saw 18 ties throughout, as neither team was able to take control of the game. After a kill by the Lady Bleu Devils gave them a 31-30 lead, they would end the game with an ace to make the match 2-1 Loyola.

In the final game, the Wolfpack grabbed an early 8-4 lead on a kill by Abendschein. Dillard chipped away, bringing the score within two after a kill at 18-16. With the lead at 22-17, Loyola’s Samantha Worsham made two great digs before Gina Gill pushed the ball over the net for a kill. Taylor Jones would then end the match at 25-20 with her ninth kill of the night.

Gill and Abendschein led Loyola with 12 kills each. Roth, who had seven blocks, finished with 11 kills. Worsham led with 37 assists while adding eight digs. Gill also dug a team high 16 attacks, with Amanda Oldani next with 13.

Loyola will be back in action on Friday, November 13, when they head to Mobile for the GCAC Tournament, with the opponent to be determinded.
